New band members often bring inspiration for a new album. And this is usually followed by a tour. With The Unguided, the replacement of the singing guitarist in late 2016 resulted in their fourth studio album; And the Battle Royal. With this highly acclaimed record, unleashed upon the world some few months ago, the Swedish Melodic Death Metal 5-piece throw themselves out on the roads again in autumn - Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Switzerland will be their target!
Following the departure of longtime guitarist and vocalist Roland Johannsson, The Unguided found a worthy replacement in Jonathan Thorpenberg. And with him the band wrote a high quality record with a mix of Metalcore and Melodic Death - wild and harsh, but also with honey sweet catchiness.
For instance, the online magazine Time for Metal praises "the relationship between hardness and sensuality" as "altogether very balanced" when the wild shouting of frontman Richard Sjunnesson alternates with the slightly roughened Cleans of Jonathan Thorpenberg. Everything underlain with a dense sound carpet of guitar hooklines and electro-instrumentation. Rockfeuer.de noted: "And The Battle Royale is not a phrases, but clear challenge!"
A challenge that the quintet is now implementing live and thus they’ll headline Central and Eastern Europe after their Scandinavian support tour with Soilwork last October. Singer Richard Sjunnesson comments: "We’ve been plotting our return to the stages of Europe very carefully and now finally we feel we have the package and production that our die-hard enthusiasts deserves. It’s also wrapped in a concept that totally exceed the previous full-length tour from 2016 “Lust and Loathing in Europe” which brought us some unforgettable memories!"
In addition, the band, which emerged from members of Sonic Syndicate in 2009, will deliver their madly catchy new album and a completely new set-list with never before performed live songs also new merchandise in the luggage. Sjunnesson promises, "There's definitely stuff which will be a wicked addition to your wardrobe!”
The Swedes are supported, in their campaign, by their compatriots dEMOTIONAL, EYES WIDE OPEN and BENEATH MY FEET.
